As you all know, I am madly in love with the work of Elizabeth Scott. All of her books are beautiful, touching, and sometimes painfully true to life.
THE UNWRITTEN RULE is no exception.
The book is about Sarah, a teenage girl who has had a crush on Ryan for years. Here's the problem, Sarah never acted on that crush, and now Ryan is dating Sarah's best friend, Brianna. Sarah knows the unwritten rule - do not like your best friend's boyfriend in that way. But the more she's around Ryan, the harder it is for her to hide her feelings for him. One night, Sarah and Ryan are alone, and something happens that chanes thier group dynamic forever.
I found Sarah to be a very sympathetic character. She's sweet and kind of quirky, and her attraction to Ryan is entirely understandable. You can't help but feel for her as she struggles between her loyalty to her best frined and the feeligns she cannot repress for the boy that she feels should have been hers.
Brianna is a complex character, too. She says things that make you cringe, that make you want to hit her, but it is impossible to stay angry with her. She isn't a horrible friend, really. She makes mistakes, but as you'll see when you read the book - which, if you are smart, you will - she has a lot more going on than the cliche bitchy BFF you see in movies.
And Ryan! Ryan is great. Like all of Elizabeth Scott's leading men, he's realistic and charming at the same time. No one can blame Sarah fro wanting to be with him.
I really loved this book. No surprise there. And I think a lot of girls will relate to Sarah. Definitely recommend it!
