Long Time, No Blog - Here's the Skinny

I know, I know. It's been like three weeks since I last blogged. I'm such a slacker. But I swear, I have legit reasons!

So a couple weeks ago, by laptop crashed. I mean CRASHED. As in, I lost everything. No, I'm not smart. I didn't have everything backed up. Luckily, a few things were saved in my email, but now I have a external drive to prevent it again. Still, I lost all of my files - devestating much.

So my laptop is now somewhere in Kentucky being fixed. In the meantime, I bought this adorable little pink plaid netbook - yes, you read that right. PINK PLAID. Cutest thing ever - soon I'll post a picture! Sadly, the netbook is not a laptop. Which means . . . *sigh* I'm behind. It's harder to do most things, including blog, but here I am.

And that's why I'm behind. That's why I've vanished. But I'll return soon with a vengence! VENGENCE I SAY!!!

In the mean time - I have a question for youa all! I'm dying to know, what are you reading right now? I just finished NEVER LET ME GO, and it was fantastic. Has anyone else read anything fantastic lately?

I just finished reading Never Let Me Go as well! Not gonna lie, didn't see that one coming. I spent the first hundred pages thinking, "What the heck is going on? Are these kids robots or something?" I definitely cried at the ending, but I cry at the ending of most books, even Lemony Snickett books.

Now I've moved on to Dancing On My Grave, an autobiography of Gelsey Kirkland, a famous ballerina. It's a reread for me. I just love getting lost in it. I've also picked up The Ivy, but I read a bad review of it recently so I might skip it. Still, it's always nice to come across a college-based book since there are so few.

I would really like to read NEVER LET ME GO before it comes out on film...

I just read NIGHTSHADE and CRESCENDO, which were both very good. I'm currently reading TYGER, TYGER and will soon by moving on to either CATE OF THE LOST COLONY or JANE. I have a huge stack of books that need to be read SOON and I've been picking and choosing depending on what I'm in the mood for. Which is, most of the time, romance. :D

I hope your laptop is back with you soon!

I recently finished ROOM by Emma Donoghue and loved it in a way words cannot describe, but if you want me to make the sound my head makes when it explodes with awesome, let me know.

I also really liked SICK PUPPY by Carl Hiaasen and ALONG FOR THE RIDE by Sarah Dessen.

Good luck on recovering the lost files from your laptop!

I've got Never Let Me Go on hold at the library. Hopefully I'll get it soon.

I've recently read several books that I really loved, including Any Bitter Thing by Monica Wood and I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak.

I'll be watching for the photo of your pink plaid netbook! :)

I just put NEVER LET ME GO on hold at the library. It sounds interesting.

My most recent fantastic read was THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE. I'm also in the middle of THE ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN (added to my TBR pile because of banned books week) and am amazed by it. So well done.

iDrive.com

I love it. It's free. It does require you to install some software, but it's totally worth it. It backs up my all my documents at 8pm every single evening (you can set the time and frequency). It takes a while to do the initial backup, but after that, it only updates the files you've changed, so it's super fast. I barely even notice it.

Also, it's saved me tons of time more than once during revisions. I've made changes to my book and then, several days later, decided the changes sucked. I opened iDrive and within a few seconds, had the version of my document from a few days before.

I really, really recommend it.

I read Never Let Me Go a while back and found it really haunting. BIG fan of Kazuo Ishiguro's novels, especially The Remains of the Day. I can't wait to see the film.

I've just finished The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan - v.enjoyable and about to start on Flood & Fire by Emily Diamand and White Crow by Marcus Sedgwick.

I just finished Mockingjay (probably the last person in the world) and it was fantastic. Sorry to hear about your laptop!

Also, I awarded you two awards on my blog. You can check them out here (totally optional):

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE

There's much in the world that you can't explain.
It's revealed for you to remember
by the whispering voice of a distant train
or a midnight rain in november.

Horizon within! You can always find
the keys to Enigma. Let's mention
one basic Truth: of spirited Mind
is Nature naught but extension.

Internal expanses! In dreams, ridden
by fear and longing you roam
that deep Southeast in your soul hidden
...on your random journey back home.

The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich! OMG - amazing! It's lighthearted, full of LOL moments, edge of the seat excitement and mystery. They have everything anyone could want from a novel, my fiance even enjoys them! Check 'em out, you'll become addicted!

Great blog, btw. You have a great voice in writing and it shows both on your blog and in DUFF (which was great!).
